Successful traffic operations for the month of October

Police from the Inner West and Pine and Gateway Patrol Groups are currently conducting a series of partnership operations with Road Policing Command, SPER and Transport and Main Roads Inspectors to target drink and drug driving and defective vehicle offences.
These aim to reduce road trauma due to traffic crashes caused by driver behaviours or faulty motor vehicles.
Our targeting of locations is intelligence-based and effective, as we are removing a high ratio of drug drivers in particular from our suburban streets.
That is something that benefits everyone’s safety.
Simply, if you drive with illegal substances in your system, you will be found and you will face the court system.
In four recent 2 and 3-hour duration operations on identified transport corridors, the following road safety enforcement was undertaken:

1,888 RBTs conducted
10 RDTs conducted
17 Traffic Infringement Notices issued by QPS and DTMR Inspectors
33 Vehicles Defected by DTMR Inspectors
87 Persons of Interest spoken to
16 persons arrested on

Police operation to crack down on fake registration plates

A police road safety operation focusing on motorists with fake registration plates and unregistered vehicles has launched across Queensland today.
The three-month operation code named Operation Quebec Yield will also involve officers targeting drivers for red light, mobile phone and seat belt offences.
Road Policing Command Superintendent David Johnson said police had recently noticed an increase in the number of fake or cloned number plates on Queensland roads.
“We know those with false number plates are more likely to commit traffic offences and other criminal offences which puts our community at risk,” Superintendent Johnson said.
“Police use registration plates to trace stolen vehicles and vehicles involved in crime and life-endangering traffic offences such as disobeying red lights and speeding.”
Superintendent Johnson said motorists without proper vehicle registration are also not paying their fair share as a road user.
“It also means the State Government has to foot the bill when motorists without insurance coverage cause crashes
