Things you need to know about when parking in and around schools

Schools can be busy areas especially at drop-off and pick-up time.
“Hectic” and “chaotic” are a few words that I can think of at these times of day around our schools.
Department of Transport and Main Roads have supplied tips for safe driving and parking around schools, which include the following:

Allow enough time to get your child/children to the school gate safely without rushing
Consider parking a few streets away and walk your child/children to school. The time you spend walking together can be a great teaching moment for your children about road safety rules and skills
Always observe the speed limit signs around the school
Always observe the parking signs outside the school. These are designed to keep children safe
Never park illegally across a driveway, on the nature strip, near a school crossing, or in a bus zone
Never double park. Double parking blocks the vision of other drivers, forces children onto the road and

A message from your local officer this O-Week

Brisbane Inner West Police are continuing their work to encourage young students to be aware of their actions and decisions when out and drinking.
Senior Constable Paul Bagnall said he is hoping that the message gets across to young people who enjoy a night out.
“We just want everyone to realise that a fight over nothing really could change everything,” Senior Constable Bagnall said.
“It’s not just about drinking, it’s about the decisions you make while having a drink or while out with friends who are affected by alcohol.
“By all means, go out and have a good time, but don’t go overboard.
“As your local police, we all too often deal with people who have let the drink get the better of them, becoming aggressive and making a nuisance of themselves.
“You can see by looking around that they’ve brought the mood down. Friends look scared and other patrons look annoyed. It’s just not worth

Lets talk about bicycle security

Police from the Inner West Patrol Group would like to remind cyclists, young and old, of some security tips to protect their pride and joys.
Unfortunately, bicycles are being stolen in our community and a shocking number were not secured at the time.

There are many security tips for cyclists, including:

Never leave your bike unattended and unlocked – always use a quality lock;
Lock as much of your bike as possible including the back wheel and frame to a rack or remove the front wheel and lock it as well;
Lock your bike to a solid object rather than something that can be cut, damaged or removed and;
Secure your bike when at home by keeping it in a locked shed, garage or inside your home.

Police suggest that cyclists register their bicycle serial number via the West End Serial Hub to help police reunite cyclists with located stolen bicycles.
If you wish to record your bicycle
