How secure is your residential garage?

Inner West Police are encouraging the occupants of Inner West residential homes, units blocks and apartment buildings to take care and ensure that their respective garages are always locked and secured when unattended.
Thieves have recently targeted residential homes and communal garages/carports belonging to unit and apartment blocks, within Inner West suburbs.
The offenders are easily gaining access through either open/unsecured garage doors or by simply following a vehicle into communal garages once the door had been remotely opened.
Once inside, the offenders target both unlocked and locked vehicles by simply opening an unlocked door or forcing entry to locked vehicles to steal visible valuables and attractive items such as wallets, handbags, mobile phones, laptops, cash, garage remotes etc.
These offenders have also targeted and stolen motorcycles parked in the garages.
They also have been able to obtain unimpeded access into residences through unlocked or open internal garage doors to steal property, such as jewellery,

Fraud appeal, Brisbane city

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to assist with inquiries in relation to multiple fraud offences.
The man purchased a laptop through an online platform and sent the seller a fake bank transfer confirmation. The seller posted the laptop to a parcel locker at the buyer’s request.
The seller then realised the bank transfer did not occur and attempted to have the laptop returned.
The buyer then pretended to be the seller and collected the laptop from Ann Street in Brisbane City on January 8 this year.
Footage shows the man collecting the laptop shortly after 4pm.
Investigators believe the same man has fraudulently used the identity of another man to open a number of mobile phone accounts.
Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the man or has further information to contact police
Members of the public who use social media and online platforms to sell items are being asked to take

A message from the Inspector

Did you Know?
On Sunday, May 26 three police officers from Brisbane’s Inner West patrol group were seriously assaulted whilst attending a call for service in relation to community safety.
This was widely reported across all forms of media.
What was not reported was that a day later in the same area, another officer was threatened by a male with a fence paling and then a week later that, a female detective was assaulted whilst talking to a man.
I would like to acknowledge the dedicated and professional group of police officers in Brisbane’s Inner West who continue to front up daily to respond to the calls for service of the community and who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of their community.
They do this despite the constant threat of injury or harm to themselves, which is evident by the above mentioned incidents over the past month.
Whilst I lead a great group of police

Warning to Inner West motorcycle owners

Recently a number of motorcycles have been the target of thieves within the Inner West District.
Local police would like to remind owners and riders to be vigilant with their motorcycle security and recommend the following tips to protect their pride and joy:

Record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine number, particularly if the motorcycle is unregistered or for off road/road racing
Keep your keys on you or safely secured away at all times
Use an ignition or steering lock
Use a strong thick chain and quality padlock – keep the chain off the ground to make it harder to cut
Secure your motorcycle to something solid that can’t be moved
Affix ‘one-way’ anti-theft screws to your registration plates
Install an alarm or an anti-theft/immobiliser device
Install a GPS tracking device
Use a motorcycle cover
Park your motorcycle in well lit areas and preferably covered by CCTV camera surveillance

Hay! Have you heard what the Inner West police have been up to?

Inner West police experience the Horses 4 Heroes program
On Thursday, June 6, Inner West crime prevention officers, along with fellow members from North Brisbane crime prevention units, vulnerable persons unit and police liaison officers, had the privilege of visiting and experiencing first hand the Horses 4 Heroes program at Walcol.
The Horses 4 Heroes is a equine healing program run by ex-defence force veterans who are now supporting veterans and emergency medical service (EMS) personnel suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Equine healing was first conducted for service personnel in England during WW1 for the commonwealth servicemen.

An English lady by the name of Ms Oliver Sands took her horses to the Oxford Hospital to provide riding training and grooming as part of the rehabilitation program to the service personnel wounded in WW1.
Today, the Wounded Heroes Equine Program has been developed for clients who need to develop a sense of self worth and
