Mural unveiled at the Green Hill Reservoirs in Chapel Hill
On Sunday, July 2, local Chapel Hill residents converged on the two Green Hill Reservoirs in Chapel Hill to celebrate the unveiling of art work designed by local high school students and painted along the 830 metre wall of the reservoir.
The reservoirs are two of SEQ Water’s largest water storage facilities, and is very important in supplying bulk drinking water to parts of Brisbane and the Moreton Bay region.
The area surrounding the reservoirs is also popular for walkers, dog-owners, runners and bike riders who regularly see graffiti on the reservoir walls and report it. To help combat this and address further vandalism, it was decided to paint a mural around the 830 metre perimeter of
National firearms amnesty targets illegal weapons
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan and Commissioner Ian Stewart are aiming to reduce the number of unregistered and unwanted firearms in Queensland through a national firearms amnesty.
From July 1 to September 30, anyone who has an unregistered firearm or firearm-related article in their possession – for whatever reason – will have the chance to legally dispose of it or register it without penalty.
Commissioner Stewart said this is the time to act.
“Not only will all participants avoid prosecution and the risk of being fined up to $60,000, they will also help keep our community safe by ensuring unregistered firearms don’t fall into the wrong hands,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Here in Queensland, we have made it as easy as possible to participate.
“Firearms and firearm-related items should be handed in at licensed firearms dealers. A detailed list of all participating dealers is on the Queensland Police website at www.police.qld.gov.au. Alternatively,
