In response to recent reported vehicle related stealing offences, police from the Inner West Patrol Group have commenced conducting pro-active community engagement and awareness operations within the affected areas.
On Wednesday October 8, Police conducted a ‘Lock it or Lose It’ inspection of 200 vehicles parked within The Gap and Mitchelton retail areas.
A majority of the vehicles inspected, were found to be secure.
However, a number of vehicles were found to be insecure (either being unlocked or having their windows down) and/or having valuable and attractive items (mobile phones, GPS, sunglasses, CDs, handbags, money and jewellery etc) fully visible.
The owners/drivers of these vehicles were subsequently left with a friendly reminder (not an infringement), identifying their vehicle’s insecurity.
Police are again urging owners/drivers of vehicles to ensure their vehicles are appropriately secure and valuable and attractive items are placed out of sight, when their vehicles are not occupied.

Police from the Inner West Patrol Group are advising residents that within the current week thieves have targeted numerous vehicles and trailers in the following Inner West locations:

The targeted vehicles and trailers had either been stolen, physically broken into or had their registration plates unlawfully removed, both during the day and night.
The targeted locations included residential garages, driveways, carports and vehicles parked on the street or in shopping centre car parks.
A number of the vehicles broken into had valuable and attractive items in full view or were simplify left insecure at the time of the offence. These factors have seen thieves help themselves to a five finger

Police from North Brisbane District are launching their ‘60 Seconds’ Project, with the support of the North Brisbane Community Policing Board.
The project calls for community members from North Brisbane, to create a 60 second video on the topic of domestic and family violence. Domestic violence occurs within all cultures, demographics, socio-economic and age groups, within intimate personal relationships including same sex relationships. It does not discriminate and requires a unified community response to help reduce instances.
Participants are urged to be creative when developing a video to help survivors of domestic and family violence, raise awareness and prevent domestic and family violence in the future.

Lowood police are attempting to identify the owners of a number of jewellery items and an extensive coin collection.
Investigations have revealed that they may have been stolen from somewhere in South East Queensland, however police are unable to identify the rightful owner and are seeking your assistance.
These items were located along with a spear gun and a compound bow.

New recruits for Dogs on Patrol
Local police, Neighbourhood Watch volunteers and Volunteers in policing attended the local Ferny Grove Dog Park located behind the Ferny Grove Police Station for Dogs on Patrol on Saturday.
This is a QPS initiative promoting personal safety to dog walkers.
Local dog owner got to meet with local police and members of the local Neighbourhood Watch group. Those who attended brought their furry friends and also received a free Dogs on Patrol tag.

Thieves target motorcycles
Inner West police are advising motorcycle owners and riders that within the last week a number of road and trail bikes have been the target of thieves in the following Inner West suburbs:
Ashgrove;
Everton Hills; and
Arana Hills
At the time of being stolen, the targeted motorcycles were either parked in a residential garage or driveway.
The modus operandi of these thieves have been to either break and enter into an address or simply enter it through an unlocked access point, locate the keys to the motorcycle and either ride or push the motorcycle away from the occurrence address.
Inner West police would like to remind owners and riders to be vigilant with their motorcycle’s security and recommended the following security tips to protect their pride and joy:
Record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine number, particularly if the motorcycle is unregistered or for off-road/road racing;
Ensure that access points at residential addresses (including garages) are
Fatal traffic crash, Indooroopilly
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a cyclist and car in Indooroopilly this morning.
The crash occurred around 6:50am on Kate Street near the intersection at Boundary Road involving a cyclist travelling down the road and a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The cyclist, a 54-year-old Brookfield man died at the scene.
The 37-year-old male driver of the vehicle was not physically injured.
Investigations are continuing.

CCTV footage: Break and enter, Enoggera
Ferny Grove Criminal Investigation Branch officers investigating a recent break and enter at a house in Enoggera, have released images and footage of a man who may be able to assist them with their inquires.
At approximately 1.30pm on Monday, October 23 a dwelling on View Street, Enoggera was unlawfully entered after windows to the front of the property were smashed.
The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his later 30’s, slim build, shaved head, tattoos to the lower left leg and possible tattoo to the neck (right side) and was wearing a long sleeve black shirt with “Everlast” logo, black board shorts, black cap with “Nike” logo and black sunglasses.
