Launch of new QPS motorcycle marking and jackets

Today I, along with other Queensland Police Service (QPS) motorcyclists, attended the state-wide launch of new motorcycle markings, in conjunction with new high visibility jackets being issued to QPS motorcyclists.

One of the primary strategies of Road Policing Command, which operates the QPS motorcycles, is high visibility. High visibility policing, enhances community safety and compliance with road rules by encouraging road users to undertake responsible road use.
Having all QPS motorcyclists on high visibility motorcycles with high visibility jackets, maximises this strategy through a highly mobile enforcement capability.
Today is also the first day of Summer 2017, and this launch helps to promote the clear message of road safety for all road users at the start of the holiday season.
As an operational officer I’m excited about the opportunity to utilise this new style jacket for several reasons (and who doesn’t like getting new gear?). I believe the new designs will increase my personal

Criminals appear to have the key to stealing cars, literally.

Keys are the means to take your vehicle. Protect your property by not making them easily available.
As motor vehicle security has increased over the years, this has made it more difficult for offenders to get away with your vehicle.
They are now committing break and enters of dwellings and specifically targeting car keys which are then used to steal the motor vehicle.
In the past few weeks we have again seen a number of these offences in Brisbane West and North Brisbane.
Residents are encouraged to think about where they store car keys and other personal property that is likely to be targeted by offenders. Even moving keys out of sight and into a drawer or cupboard can reduce the likelihood of them being stolen.
We encourage residents to take advantage of the QPS Home Security audit checklist to see tips on how to increase your home security. The checklist can be located here.

National Domestic Violence Order Scheme introduced to better protect victims

On November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – a National Domestic Violence Order Scheme was introduced to increase protection for victims of domestic and family violence across Australian borders.
Over the past 18 months police, courts and justice agencies throughout Australia have been working collaboratively to operationalise this legalisation change which will see domestic violence order perpetrators held accountable for their actions nationwide.
As of November 25, any domestic violence order issued in any Australian state or territory will be automatically recognised and enforceable nationwide. Individuals no longer need to register a domestic violence order in another state or territory for it to be enforceable.
Commissioner Ian Stewart said the scheme is a significant milestone in protecting and empowering victims and their families from domestic violence.
“The Queensland Police Service plays a critical role in responding to domestic and family violence. There is not a more important
