There has been some commentary surrounding the use of unmarked mobile speed cameras in Queensland today.
The use of unmarked mobile speed cameras is just one of a suite of measures employed by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) aimed at reducing the state’s road toll.
There are 18 unmarked mobile speed camera vehicles in use across Queensland.
During the 2016-17 financial year there were 106,741 notices issued by unmarked mobile speed cameras in Queensland and 163,176 notices issued by marked mobile speed cameras.
The QPS has no plan to phase out the use of unmarked mobile speed cameras.
Recent research (Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) – Cameron) has determined that the mixed use of both covert and overt mobile speed cameras would produce the best road safety outcomes due to the strong effect that covert cameras have on fatality crashes (as their unknown nature suppresses vehicle speeds across the network thus reducing crash severity)

Police are advising motorcycle owners and riders that within the last week a number of trail bikes have been the target of thieves in the Inner West suburbs of Mitchelton and Gaythorne.
At the time of being targeted, the trail bikes were either parked in a residential basement car parks, attached to vehicles, or parked on suburban streets.
The modus operandi of these thieves have been to either enter an address through an insecure access point or attempt to remove the motorcycle from a vehicle, then simply ride or push the motorcycle away from the occurrence location.
Inner West police would like to remind owners and riders to be vigilant with security and recommend the following tips to protect your pride and joy:

Record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine number, particularly if the motorcycle is unregistered or for off-road/road racing.
Ensure that access points at residential addresses (including garages) are locked at all

Police searching for two men involved in a number of incidents yesterday afternoon in Brisbane and Maryborough have released images of two men who may be able to assist investigators with their enquires.
After a series of incidents starting in Sunnybank around midday yesterday the men were last night involved in the stealing of a white Mazda 6 sedan from an address on Waterview Drive in Dundowran Beach around 6:15pm.
The same Mazda 6, with Queensland registration 747-TPY, was involved in a petrol drive-off at a service station on Bligh Street in Kilkivan at around 6:30am this morning.
The two men are described as being in their late teens with short dark hair.
It is believed the two men were travelling south and have since returned to the greater Brisbane area.
Police are urging the public not to approach the two men, but to contact police on Triple Zero (000).
Investigations are continuing.

Balvenie Street: Police are seeking witnesses or information about a break and enter offence that occurred in Balvenie Street, Keperra between December 31, 2017 at about 10pm and January 1, 2018 at 10.00am. Residents were home at the time of the offence.
Offenders used an unknown implement to force open a glass sliding door to the residence where they searched the premises. They located keys to a vehicle which was then stolen.
The stolen vehicle being a blue Mazda 3 Hatchback bearing Queensland registration plates 820LYI.
Anyone with information in relation to this offence or know the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle is encouraged to contact local police.
Remember, if you see something, say something.

Police have charged two men following investigations of four separate armed robberies that occurred last night in West End, Brisbane.
At around 7pm, a 31-year-old man was approaching the intersection of Montague Road and Mollison Street when he was allegedly stopped by two men threatening him with a knife and demanded his mobile phone, which he refused and walked away.
At around 7:15pm, a 22-year-old man was waiting at a bus stop on Montague Road when he was allegedly approached by two men who threatened the man with a knife and demanded his mobile phone. He has complied and then fled towards Victoria Street.
At around 7:30pm, a 34-year-old man was walking along Montague Road when he was allegedly approached by two men who threatened him with a knife and demanded his mobile phone. He has complied and fled.

A motorcyclist has taken flight in the Airport Link Tunnel on day 8 of Festive Break, allegedly detected travelling 192 km/hour in an 80 km/hour zone through Windsor.
The rider was one of 3,733 drivers detected speeding on Day 8 of the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign.
A 24-year-old Korean man lost his life following a single vehicle traffic crash on Sippel Road in the Lockyer Valley where the vehicle he was travelling in left the roadway.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene while a man located in the back seat sustained serious head injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
A man and woman also travelling in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
A further 59 drivers were yesterday charged with drink driving with the State’s highest reading on the Sunshine Coast where a motorist allegedly provided a Breath Alcohol Consumption (BAC) of 0.224 per cent
