Charges over alleged motorcycle thefts, Morningside

Police have charged four boys with over 50 charges, following investigations into a string of alleged motorcycle thefts and burglaries.
The arrests come as a swift response to offences allegedly committed in the last month on the south side of Brisbane.
Morningside police will allege during the execution of several search warrants, the youths had possession of property relating to stolen motorbikes, weapons, drugs and drug utensils.
Detective Acting Inspector John Mison said the arrests highlight the tireless and coordinated action from police in response to crime in our local community.
The boys, a 12-year-old, two aged 14 and a 15-year-old, have been charged with almost 60 charges relating to thefts.
The first 14-year-old was charged with three counts of unlicensed driving, seven counts of burglary, eight counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, stealing and trespass.

PSPA revoked – Suspicious school fire, Morningside

Police have revoked an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act after a suspicious school fire at Morningside earlier this morning.
Shortly after 3am police and emergency services attended the facility at Pashen Street with several buildings destroyed and a number of others sustaining significant damage.
The declaration was made at 3.25am and revoked at 7.30am.
A crime scene has been established and the fire is being treated as suspicious with traffic control in place at Thynne Road and Stephens Street.
Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity to contact them.

Update – Armed robbery, Durack

Investigations are continuing into an armed robbery at Durack on Saturday October 13.
About 8.30pm, a man armed with a knife entered a petrol station on Inala Avenue and demanded cash from a 28-year-old female employee. The man fled the scene a short time later with a quantity of cash, heading north along Blunder Road.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Detectives have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist the investigation.

Wet roads on the mountains, Mt Zero – take extra care

Mt Glorious Road was very wet and visibility was poor.
Inner West Patrol Group are appealing for all road users to drive with care on our mountain roads during these wet conditions. Police are urging community members to be aware of the changing road conditions, as the wet weather will bring debris to the roadway making the roads very slippery.

Can you help NHW The Gap

The Inner West Crime Prevention Office is currently seeking residents and businesses in The Gap who would like to get involved with Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).
NHW is a community run program that is assisted by the Queensland Police Service. It is a great way to share information and to promote a safe and secure community.
Being involved does not need to take up too much time, and there are a variety of roles that you can become involved in.

Update – Attempted armed robbery, Darra

Detectives investigating the attempted armed robbery of a Darra supermarket last week have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak with over the incident.
Around 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 9 the man entered the Monier Road store carrying a machete.
At the time several employees who observed the man enter the store were able lock themselves in a store room.
The armed man attempted to access the locked room however was unsuccessful and fled a short time after.
Investigators have released CCTV images of a man described as being approximately between 180-190cm tall, with a dark complexion, sold build, wearing dark boots, dark long pants, orange hi-vis jacket with a hoodie and carrying a machete.

Update – Death investigation, Mount Gravatt East

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 33-year-old man at a Mount Gravatt East residence overnight.
Around 9.30pm officers attended the Hoff Street residence where the man was located deceased.
A crime scene has been declared and investigations by detectives and forensic officers are continuing.
Detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Anyone that may have information concerning the death is being asked to contact police.

If it’s flooded, forget it!

Wet conditions will again be a threat on Queensland roads over the next few days and Brisbane West Police are urging motorists to take extra care when driving.
It is a good time to familiarise yourself with some simple safety tips.
Avoid flooded roads, creeks and watercourses.
Flood waters can be fast-moving and unpredictable.
Slow down when travelling in heavy rain and on water-affected roads.
Road conditions may be difficult to assess, including water depth, water speed and debris.
Remember: ‘If It’s Flooded, Forget It!’
Road closures and road conditions can change rapidly as creeks and water courses can rise and fall quickly.
Do not play in or enter flood prone waterways, watercourses and drains as water levels can rises rapidly.

Road safety operation, Ferny Grove Division

On Wednesday September 19, Inner West Police continued their long-term cooperative Road Safety Operations with Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), targeting behaviours and vehicle issues that lead to crashes.

Of the 583 vehicles inspected, 16 were issued Defect Notice Infringements for matters that would concern any reasonable road user such as vehicles without windows, all bald tyres, trailers and cars without lights and vehicles with jagged protrusions that could cause injury to other road users.
TMR issued 16 Defects, 10 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINS) and 1 Formal Warning.
We conducted 583 Roadside Breath Tests (RBTs) and 5 Roadside Drug Tests (RDTs).
Some of the infringements and results from this operation included four speed infringements, one BAC drive, one drug drive (methamphetamine), two unlicensed drive (1 forfeiture proceeding) and one drug offender (Possess Dangerous Drug).

When it comes to extreme weather events (such as storms) in Queensland, it’s not so much a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’.
So, the more prepared we are, the faster we’ll bounce back.
