Dogs on Patrol!
Following on from last weekends RSPCA Million Paws Walk, officers from North Brisbane are proud to announce that Dogs on Patrol is back at Stafford for 2019 and will be bigger than ever!
We invite you and your four legged friends to join us:
On Sunday, June 16
From 2pm – 4pm
At Roy Harvey Park, Shand Street Stafford – access and ample off street parking on Brennan, Byth, or Macnaughton Streets.
Dogs on Patrol is a Queensland Police Service initiative that has been held all around the State and an annual dog friendly event held in Stafford since 2015.
On the day, community members and their four legged friends will get to meet local police, receive a free Dogs on Patrol tag engraved by police, learn how to keep their neighbourhoods safe whilst walking their dogs and meet our newest pawsome recruits too!
We will have heaps of displays and stalls including:

Inner West police support the Brookfield Show

Inner West Police experiencing the highs of the Brookfield Show
Between Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19, police from the Inner West Patrol Group provided police coverage and conducted community engagement activities at the 2019 Brookfield Show.
The police support included general duties and plain clothes officers patrolling the show grounds ensuring everyone’s safety and well being.
Officers from Road Policing made sure the surrounding roads were safe and traffic flowed smoothly in and out of the showgrounds.
Officers from the Inner West Crime Prevention Unit, along with their civilian Volunteers In Policing (VIP), provided a static display and conducted proactive community engagement activities with patrons of the show.
The display and engagement activities gave show-goers the opportunity to speak to police officers firsthand and obtain valuable information about personal and property security, road rules, vehicle licensing, registration advice and much more.

Update 2: Appeal for witnesses / dashcam vision: Fatal traffic crash, Windsor

Investigators have released vision of a black BMW SUV involved in a fatal traffic crash at Windsor on the weekend as they continue to appeal for information.
The vehicle is captured on CCTV travelling on Makerston Street towards Roma Street in Brisbane City around 11.51pm.
A short time later the black 2007 BMW SUV was travelling northbound on Lutwyche Road when it collided with a moped travelling north being ridden by a 32-year-old man from East Brisbane.
The BMW then veered into the southbound lanes and collided with a Subaru sedan driven by a 23-year-old Acacia Ridge man before also colliding with a Jeep.
The man on the moped and the driver of the Subaru both died at the scene.
Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam vision, in particular the movements of black BMW SUV, prior to the crash.

Changing perspectives on property crime – vehicle security

Most car thefts, and theft from cars, are opportunistic in nature however, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk of having your car stolen or broken into.
What you can do:

Park in well-lit and highly visibly areas whenever possible, utilising off street and secured parking.
When parking in a garage, ensure both the garage and vehicle are locked and the garage door remotes are secured.
Avoid marking your keys with personal or vehicle details including name, phone number or registration details.
Consider installing a car alarm or steering wheel lock to help protect your vehicle.
Use lockable devices to help keep your vehicle secure including lockable fuel caps, wheel nuts, spare tyre covers and roof racks.
Consider installing a remote engine immobiliser which meets Australian Standards.
Consider installing a GPS tracker to your vehicle.

Police launch new crime prevention campaign

The Queensland Police Service today launched a new crime prevention campaign, aimed at changing Queenslander’s perspectives towards property crime.
This new campaign uses mixed media including the 360° format and flyers on social media to put users in a criminal’s perspective and point out every day behaviours which can increase the likelihood of Queenslanders falling victim to opportunistic crime.
Acting Inspector Joanna Stone, Manager of Crime Prevention Programs Unit said crime prevention was every Queenslander’s responsibility and campaigns such as this, allowed the QPS to educate around crime prevention habits.
“Police across the state have crime prevention at the forefront of their minds every day when interacting with Queenslanders,” Acting Inspector Stone said.
“Too often, property crime is the result of opportunistic criminals receiving a helping hand from unsuspecting Queenslanders, whether that be through a wallet left on the front seat of a car or a back door left unlocked.

Update: Serious traffic crash, Upper Kedron

A man has passed away in hospital today after being involved in a single vehicle crash at Upper Kedron on May 4.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations indicate about 1.15pm a motorcyclist was headed north on Canvey Road when the rider has lost control of the motorbike and has fallen off.
A 70-year-old local man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he passed away today.
Investigations are continuing.

Departments collaborate for community safety and wellbeing

Ferny Grove officers share information to maximise safety in the community
On Tuesday, April 30 officers from Ferny Grove Police Station, Department of Housing and Public Works and Department of Justice and Attorney- General came together with community members to share information and strategies to maximise safety and enhance well being.
The services aimed to build on positive relationships between government departments and our local community.
The department representatives engaged with residents, offered information about their roles in our community and how residents are able to access their assistance should they require it.
Ferny Grove Officer in Charge Acting Senior Sergeant Garry Stephen said the positive engagement offered residents an opportunity to voice concerns and help police foster good will.
“Police are committed to building a better community with the support of partner agencies,” Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen said.

Domestic and family violence information booth, Chermside

Not now, not ever
The Vulnerable Persons Unit (VPU) are asking that the community join them and stand up and say “NOT NOW, NOT EVER” this May for domestic and family violence prevention month.
This Thursday, May 16, members of the VPU with domestic and family violence services are hosting a domestic violence information booth outside Kmart at Westfield Chermside from 9am to 9pm.
Everyone is welcome to come along and have a conversation, say hello or have a look at or inside a marked police car.
The North Brisbane District Vulnerable Persons and Domestic Violence Unit commenced in August 2018.
VPU has 14 operational police based at Stafford and Petrie Police Stations, all who have a passion and primary focus to help victims of domestic and family violence and interact with respondents to secure the safest outcome for the aggrieved.
