Inner West police officer wins Adopt-a-Cop award

On November 22, Constable Charisse Marnock from the Indooroopilly Police Station received both the  North Brisbane District and Brisbane Region (encompassing both North and South Brisbane) Adopt-a-Cop award.
Constable Charisse, as she is known to the students of her adopted school, Kenmore South State School, was also nominated for the 2019 State Adopt-a-Cop of the Year award.
Constable Charisse with Commissioner Carroll and Deputy Principal Robyn Cooney
This prestigious award is a huge accomplishment for Constable Charisse, who has only been performing her Adopt-a-Cop role for just over 12 months.
Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said this award recognises Constable Marnock’s motivation to seek opportunities to engage and enhance interactions with the students and her ability to also engage positively and proactively with staff and parents alike.
“Deputy Principal of Kenmore South State School, Ms Robyn Cooney, particularly noted your impromptu visits and the rapport you have built with students from prep to Year Six, as well

Unlawful entry to motor vehicles, Fig Tree Pocket

Inner West Police are advising residents in the Fig Tree Pocket area, that thieves have targeted a number of vehicles in the past 24 hours in the following residential streets:

Porchester Street
Norman Street
Cottesmore Street
Sprenger Street

Ensure you store your valuables out of sight
The majority of these vehicles broken into were left unlocked at the time of their respective unlawful entries.
This fact has easily enabled the thieves to have unimpeded access into the vehicles and their valuable and attractive contents.
Police are strongly encouraging owners and drivers of vehicles to be proactive and ensure their respective vehicles are locked when left unattended, no matter how long or short they are left unoccupied for.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, by calling 1800 333 000

Simply locking your vehicle can be enough

The Inner West Patrol Group Police have received 10 reports of vehicles being unlawful entered across the Indooroopilly, Ferny Grove and The Gap policing regions in the last seven days.
In the majority of these cases, the vehicles were left unlocked.
Please remember ‘if you don’t lock it, you can easily lose it’ and that crime prevention is also the responsibility of the whole community, not just the police.

All of the vehicles below were parked on the roadside or driveway.

Theft from secure car parking of apartments, Mitchelton

Please be aware that police have received reports of break and enter offences to secure car parking areas within apartment complexes across the Mitchelton area.
It appears that offenders generally enter as resident’s enter or exit the carpark and once access is gained to the car parks, offenders are able to target multiple vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles and storage lockers.
Offenders are often able to gain access to other communal areas and residential areas of the complex from the car park or fire exit stairwells.
Police are encouraging everyone to be vigilant with their security, particularly when entering or accessing the car park of a multi-residential living facility, and to review current security measures.
Some security measures you can take:
Motorcycles

Use added security devices (such as disc locks) in combination with an ignition or steering locks.  Ignition and steering locks on their own are not a deterrent from theft.
If possible, secure your motorcycle to a solid

QPS officers trying out for the Southern Stars

On Sunday, November 10, I attended a slightly different type of policing operation.
Unfortunately, a bat with two pups had become entangled on power lines and the mother sadly died.
However, the two pups survived and one was still attached to mum on the power line.
Constable Askew with the rescued pup
Police were called as the position of the bat was quite precarious near a major intersection and needed traffic control.
There was also a wildlife carer looking after the other pup so it fell to two of our remarkable police officers to be in position to catch the pup if it let go of mum.
Constable Kate Sherratt, who is coincidentally an international level soccer player for the Australian Army and Constable Lyndsey Askew volunteered for the task.

They spent an extended period of time in the sun with a towel at the ready just in case the pup fell.

Break and enter, Springfield

Police are investigating the break and enter of a tavern on Ashby Close on Wednesday morning November 6 at Springfield.
Around 4.40am, two people have broken into the tavern and damaged several poker machines and stolen money from the gaming room.
A cleaner interrupted the offenders and they fled shortly after.
It is believed the offenders were both wearing white coveralls. They left on foot and may have scaled the back fence.
Investigators are urging anyone who may recognise the people in this vision or have information to contact police.
