Reminder to lock your vehicles

In the last two weeks, the Inner West area has experienced a rise in car break ins.
In almost all of these instances, the vehicles had been left unlocked.
The areas targeted the most were:

Auchenflower and Toowong also had four offences each in that same two week period.
Don’t invite crime – lock your car every time!

Theft of property from motor vehicles is a preventable crime.
When our vehicles are parked, they represent a ‘display case’ to an opportunistic offender looking for an easy profit.
This form of ‘window shopping’ is being assisted by vehicle owners leaving valuable items on show inside the vehicle including laptops, mobile phones, wallets, handbags and money.
Even leaving a sports bag on display invites attention from a thief.
While you know your bag contains only a gym towel and a pair of old shoes, the thief doesn’t and will happily damage your vehicle to gain entry to discover exactly what’s inside.

Firearm incident, Toowong

Police have charged an 18-year-old Springwood man following investigations into an incident at Toowong this morning.
Around 7am police were called by members of the public who reported seeing two men, one of which is alleged to have been pointing a firearm towards traffic at the intersection of Sherwood Road and Jephson Street.
Police attended a nearby hotel where they reviewed footage and spoke with staff who indicated the two men were staying there.
A short time later officers took a number of people into custody, however one man did not comply and was subsequently tasered.
The weapon was later confirmed to be a replica.
The 18-year-old man has been given a Notice to Appear for one count of going armed so as to cause fear. He is due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 16.
Investigations are continuing.
