Police are warning members of the public to be on alert for Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card skimming devices fitted to ATMs.
A number of ATMs across Metropolitan Brisbane have been targeted by skimming devices over the past week.
The skimming devices are being utilised to steal and obtain unlawful identification data from financial institution bank/ debit cards.
Once this information has been obtained, it is used in various ways to unlawfully take money from the respective customer’s account.
Generally, a skimming device is a cover plate placed over the original card insert point on the ATM (similar to the one pictured above) with a small camera attached to the ATM to record the card’s personal identification number (PIN).
