Road safety starts at childhood

Last week, Adopt-A-Cop Constable Chris Smith and other police officers from the Road Policing Unit, attended Samford State School.
The QPS officers taught year one students all about road and pedestrian safety, tying in with their health unit of learning how to take care of themselves and their bodies.
Through the Adopt-A-Cop program, Constable Smith builds relationships between police and members of the school community.
Constable Smith showed the students road signs, explained their meaning, talked about road safety for pedestrians and when and how to cross the roads safely.
“Road safety starts at childhood,” Constable Smith said.
Constable Smith returned later in the week to help students in year five with their assessment in understanding the role of police officers in our community and the responsibilities they hold.
Police would like to remind drivers to be aware of their speed in school zones as children can be unpredictable.
