Inner West Police are encouraging the occupants of Inner West residential homes, units blocks and apartment buildings to take care and ensure that their respective garages are always locked and secured when unattended.
Thieves have recently targeted residential homes and communal garages/carports belonging to unit and apartment blocks, within Inner West suburbs.
The offenders are easily gaining access through either open/unsecured garage doors or by simply following a vehicle into communal garages once the door had been remotely opened.
Once inside, the offenders target both unlocked and locked vehicles by simply opening an unlocked door or forcing entry to locked vehicles to steal visible valuables and attractive items such as wallets, handbags, mobile phones, laptops, cash, garage remotes etc.
These offenders have also targeted and stolen motorcycles parked in the garages.
They also have been able to obtain unimpeded access into residences through unlocked or open internal garage doors to steal property, such as jewellery,
