With large crowds expected to celebrate the New Year in Brisbane police are urging revellers to use common sense and ensure their celebrations remain safe and enjoyable.
Brisbane NYE commander Chief Superintendent Cameron Harsley said people throughout Queensland enjoy seeing the ‘new year in’ with tens of thousands of people heading to entertainment precincts throughout the state, with the Brisbane CBD, Fortitude Valley and South Bank areas popular locations.
“NYE is a great night, a time to celebrate with family and friends but poor decisions can have dire and lifelong consequences.
“The key to a great New Year’s Eve is to plan ahead – this includes thinking about how much alcohol you’re going to drink and how you’re getting home,” he said.
“Of course, if you’re going to drink, don’t get behind the wheel. Use public transport, or ride sharing services where possible or plan a “lift legend” designated driver.
