Don’t be complacent about high rise apartment and vehicle security

Inner West Police would like to remind residents living in high rise residential buildings not to be complacent in believing that their respective dwellings are immune from break and enters, because of the isolation afforded by height.
Last year a number of ‘spiderman’ high rise burglaries occurred within in a number of inner west and south side suburbs.
The ‘spiderman’ offenders were easily able to externally climb up several stories or use a drain pipe to gain entry via either unsecured balcony windows or doors. In several occasions, the offenders used minimal force to remove the fly screens to gain entry. Once inside these offenders targeted items such as wallets, jewellery, car keys, laptops, iPads, phones and cash.

Also targeted were high rise residential apartment underground garages. The offenders gained access either through unsecured garage doors or by following a vehicle into the garage, once the door had been remotely opened. Once inside
