Police kick of Road Safety Week with operation in The Gap

Today as part of Queensland Road Safety Week 2017, staff from Indooroopilly Road Policing Unit and The Gap Division combined to undertake an operation within The Gap Division generally.
We were focusing on drivers that are in excess of prescribed alcohol limits or haveĀ drugs present in their system whilst driving.
We utilised a number of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) vehicles which are very effective and a useful tool in our role as they quickly identify vehicles that are unregistered/uninsured and persons that are wanted.

We used the local knowledge of The Gap staff combined with the specialist knowledge and equipment that Road Policing Units possess, to conduct a number of drug and alcohol tests.
We detected one driver who returned an alleged positive reading of the presence of drugs within their system. The driver was issued a Notice to Appear for driving with a relevant drug present in saliva and is to appear
