The Kenmore South State School and Helensvale State High School, both in Queensland, almost fell prey to fraudulent invoice scams. Both schools received invoices for payment, both for “consultancy fees.”
Kenmore South State High School received an invoice for $26,000 while Helensvale State High School received one for $42,000. Both invoices were identified as fraudulent and were not paid.
In August, the Brisbane City Council was scammed of $450,000 by fraudsters posing as suppliers, who tricked the BCC into changing the bank details for payments. Close to half a million dollars was made by the BCC in nine payments to a false account.
