Inner West Police support the Sony Holiday Camp

Police from the Inner West Patrol Group had the privilege of attending and supporting the Marist Collage Ashgrove, 15th Sony Holiday Camp on September 19.
The camp’s aim is to provide four days of fun for children between the ages of 5 and 15, with physical and intellectual disabilities, at no expense to the children’s parents. The camp also provides parents, their siblings and primary carers with much-needed respite for, in what may be their only break of the year.
The camp program is supported by volunteer Year 12 students from Marist College Ashgrove and Mount Alvernia College Kedron, who are responsible (along with qualified adult carers) for the care of these children 24 hours a day over the course of the camp.
The students quickly learn about the challenges and demands involved in caring for a child with special needs.  Not only do the students have an enriching experience, but the children

Warmer weather leads to more break and enters

Warmer months often lead to an increase in break and enter offences to residential properties as residents become complacent about securing doors and windows in an effort to cool down.
Most house-breaks appear to be crimes of opportunity, with entry often gained through an open or unlocked door or window. In many other circumstances, minimal effort is used to gain entry, for example via poor quality door locks.
It is important to remember that our aim is not to turn the home, unit or apartment into a fortress or a prison. We are, however, attempting to make the home resistant to entry by opportunistic offenders.
Queensland Police Service provides a free Home Security Audit Service, contact Ferny Grove Crime Prevention on 3872 1542 or Indooroopilly Crime Prevention on 3377 9421 to make a booking.
