Keeping our mountain roads safe

The mountain roads through Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious, have been very quiet for the last month with Queenslanders adhering to COVID-19 restrictions.
During this time, there has been a substantial reduction in general recreational traffic (cars and motorcycles) across our mountain roads.
Recently, we have seen a notable increase in the general community visiting these areas for exercise.
This has subsequently led to an increase in traffic on the two mountains, and a noticeable associated increase in vehicular related noise from this traffic.

Regretfully, some road users are behaving in a manner that is unacceptable and putting themselves and the lives of others at risk.
Police from The Gap and Ferny Grove Police Divisions, along with their Road Policing Command counterparts, would like to reassure members of our local mountain communities, that Inner West Police will increase and continue traffic enforcement on mountain roads to defer any further negative behaviour.
Any drivers, riders or cyclists detected

Not Now. Not Ever. Together. Supporting Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month

Officers from across the QPS have shown their support for this year’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month by spreading an important message with the Queensland community to stop the scourge of domestic and family violence across the state.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home, but sadly, every day police officers across Queensland respond to emergency situations involving domestic violence.
Tragically, 15 people were killed in 2019 as a result of domestic violence. That is 15 people too many.
The theme for this year’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is Not Now. Not Ever. Together. which is why we are urging everyone to recognise the signs of domestic violence, to reach out and speak up.

When discussing this month-long event, Commissioner Katarina Carroll said Domestic and Family was a significant issue, both within the QPS and beyond.
“We [the QPS] are heavily invested

Two men have been charged after a series of fraud complaints  relating to line dancing events.
As a result of information from a member of the public through Crime Stoppers, police attended a Kings Beach unit yesterday and located two men.

The holidays included group trips overseas and domestically including line dancing festivals, balls and cruises. After money was paid, the holiday was cancelled with no refunds provided.
Police initially received 75 complaints for a fraud value of $144, 000 from members of the public across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
A further 127 complaints with a fraud value of $178,000 were received after an appeal for information in April 2019. Police believe there may be more scam victims and continue to appeal for any victims to contact police.
