A man suffered serious head injuries following an alleged assault outside a licensed premises in Bulimba overnight.
Shortly after midnight, police attended a disturbance after an altercation between two groups occurred outside a hotel in Oxford Street.
Initial inquiries indicate as a result of the altercation three security guards attended to separate the two groups.
A 21-year-old man was attempting to re-enter the hotel when he was allegedly punched in the head causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
The man was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
A 26-year-old man is assisting detectives with their inquiries.
Investigations are continuing.

Update: Suspicious school fire, Morningside
Police have charged a boy following investigations into a suspicious fire at a Morningside school on October 16.
An emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was declared on the day of the fire with traffic control put in place at Thynne Road and Stephens Street.
A 16-year-old boy was charged yesterday with one count of arson and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Investigations into the incident are continuing with police asking members of the public who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity to contact them.
Sexual assault charges, Chermside
Detectives from the North Brisbane Criminal Investigation Branch investigating allegations of sexual assault at a Chermside medical facility have charged a man.
It will be alleged a 26-year-old woman was assaulted at the facility today.
A 50-year-old Carindale man has been charged with one count each of rape and sexual assault.
He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Attempted murder appeal, Mango Hill
Detectives have released vision of a vehicle believed to be linked to an incident last week where a man was stabbed at Mango Hill.
The 46-year-old man attended a property on Lamington Road around 12.30pm on October 10 when his vehicle was prevented from passing by a white hatchback parked on the roadway with a man standing beside it.
The victim exited his vehicle to speak with the man when another two vehicles pulled up behind, blocking him in as the man approached him armed with a knife.
Investigations indicate at this point the man lunged at the victim a number of times, striking him in the torso.
The victim grabbed a metal pole, using it on his attacker and hit him a number of times, injuring him before he entered the white hatchback.
The man drove from the scene with the other two vehicles following behind.

Sergeant Louise Nugent and the students of Year 11 Science class 21
In August, Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) Sergeant Louise Nugent was invited to Brigidine College to give a presentation about the role of forensic science in policing.
The Year 11 Science 21 class had been learning about forensic science principles, so Sergeant Nugent was able to show the practical application of science in her role at the Indooroopilly Forensic Unit.
Sergeant Nugent provided information on the different aspects of the job a scenes of crime officer undertakes, including photography, fingerprinting (both the powers and chemicals), DNA evidence types and their collection, and various ‘impression type evidence’ (e.g. shoe sole) SOCOs search for and collect at crime scenes.
Practical exercises included fingerprinting, DNA swabs and ‘tape lifts’, as well as letting a student try on full crime scene protective clothing.

Charges over alleged motorcycle thefts, Morningside
Police have charged four boys with over 50 charges, following investigations into a string of alleged motorcycle thefts and burglaries.
The arrests come as a swift response to offences allegedly committed in the last month on the south side of Brisbane.
Morningside police will allege during the execution of several search warrants, the youths had possession of property relating to stolen motorbikes, weapons, drugs and drug utensils.
Detective Acting Inspector John Mison said the arrests highlight the tireless and coordinated action from police in response to crime in our local community.
The boys, a 12-year-old, two aged 14 and a 15-year-old, have been charged with almost 60 charges relating to thefts.
The first 14-year-old was charged with three counts of unlicensed driving, seven counts of burglary, eight counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, stealing and trespass.

PSPA revoked – Suspicious school fire, Morningside
Police have revoked an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act after a suspicious school fire at Morningside earlier this morning.
Shortly after 3am police and emergency services attended the facility at Pashen Street with several buildings destroyed and a number of others sustaining significant damage.
The declaration was made at 3.25am and revoked at 7.30am.
A crime scene has been established and the fire is being treated as suspicious with traffic control in place at Thynne Road and Stephens Street.
Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity to contact them.

Update – Armed robbery, Durack
Investigations are continuing into an armed robbery at Durack on Saturday October 13.
About 8.30pm, a man armed with a knife entered a petrol station on Inala Avenue and demanded cash from a 28-year-old female employee. The man fled the scene a short time later with a quantity of cash, heading north along Blunder Road.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Detectives have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist the investigation.

Wet roads on the mountains, Mt Zero – take extra care
Mt Glorious Road was very wet and visibility was poor.
Inner West Patrol Group are appealing for all road users to drive with care on our mountain roads during these wet conditions. Police are urging community members to be aware of the changing road conditions, as the wet weather will bring debris to the roadway making the roads very slippery.
