Inner West Police fitting one-way anti-theft screws at the Bellbowrie Plaza
On Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30, crime prevention officers from the Ferny Grove and Indooroopilly Police Stations conducted a number of anti-theft number plate fitting and Queensland Road Safety Week events with local Neighbourhood Watch groups.
The events were held at the Kenmore Village Shopping Centre and the Bellbowrie Tavern.
The events were extremely popular with Inner West residents, as a total of 75 vehicles were fitted with one-way anti-theft screws over the two day events.
Both events also coincided with Queensland Road Safety Week and community members who attended the events were provided with road safety information and some goodie’s.
Inner West Police would like to thank community members for their attendance and contributing to detouring opportunistic crime by having one-way anti-theft screws fitted to their vehicles, or as we say turning the screws on crime.
Additionally, police would like to thank

The science behind road safety: Distraction and Inattention
This week is Queensland Road Safety Week and together with Department of Transport and Main Roads, StreetSmarts, we’re committed to putting road safety first. In 2018, 245 people were killed on Queensland roads.
You’ve heard about the Fatal Five but did you know that one in every nine fatalities in 2018 were a result of distraction?
Mobile phones are a distraction in basically every part of our lives.
While they make our lives so much easier in so many ways, they can be deadly on our roads.
Using a mobile phone is a physical, visual, auditory and cognitive distraction. When you’re travelling at 60km/h, looking down at your phone for a mere two seconds can result in you travelling 33.33 metres without looking at the road. That’s 33.3 metres you have travelled blindly, unaware of your surroundings.
Keep distractions to a minimum so you can ensure safer roads for all road users.
The facts:
Driving while using
Dry driving results in free coffee
Tomorrow marks the last day of Queensland Road Safety Week.
This week, our policing duties involved conducting many roadside breath (RBT) and drug tests.
Drink driving is one of the major killers on Queensland roads.
On average, 55 people are killed and 550 are seriously injured each year on Queensland roads as a result of drink driving.
Drinking alcohol reduces our ability to drive safely.
Alcohol affects judgement, vision, coordination and reflexes, and increases the risk of crashing.
Throughout Queensland Road Safety Week, we have been very fortunate to have support from local businesses who have supplied a large number of free coffee cards that we distributed to each driver that was pulled over for an RBT and returned a zero result.
They have been a great acknowledgement to drivers that are doing the right thing.
The Street Smarts website contacts lots of information on the risks associated with drink driving.
I am pleased to report that during the
