Queensland Racing Crime Squad match-fixing charges

Detectives of the the Queensland Racing Crime Squad working in conjunction with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission have today concluded a protracted match-fixing investigation relating to a leading harness driver.
A 35-year-old Logan man, as well as two others, have been arrested this morning and charged with match-fixing and other offences in the harness code.
He has been released on bail to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court in January in relation to charges of match-fixing.
Police will allege the man affected the outcome of harness races at Albion Park in Queensland in July and October this year.
An 18-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman both from Logan Village were also arrested in raids by detectives this morning.

If you’re going to drink, plan not to drive

Recently I went to RACQ as part of their drink driving campaign where we tested three types of privately purchased breathalysers back-to-back with the QPS roadside breath testing device.
We used two volunteers (who wouldn’t volunteer to drink at work and have it supplied by your boss?) who drank either a red or white wine. We then tested the three commercially available devices against the device that the QPS use to test drivers at the roadside.
Check out the story by Channel Nine here to see the exact readings which varied widely between the commercial devices and the QPS device. The QPS device are calibrated consistently through the National Association of Testing Authorities scheme and our process is that when a driver returns a reading in excess of the legal limit we conduct a secondary evidential analysis.

PD Astro and PD Quinn ready for retirement

After illustrious careers with the Queensland Police Service, Police Dog Astro and Police Dog Quinn hang up their harnesses and prepare to live out their retirement in style.

At six years old, PD Astro has served the Brisbane Dog Squad and most recently, the Mackay Dog Squad as a general purpose dog for over four years.
His mother was breeding dog Uma and his father is PD Stinger who is now with the Northern Territory police.
PD Astro is known for his high level of tracking ability. He has located many offenders throughout his career and is responsible for the apprehension of numerous violent offenders. Trained as a tactical dog, he was deployed to Cairns and Brisbane to provide security for G20 delegates. He was in the inner cordon when President Obama

Tradies!!! Secure your workplace and tools

Police are investigating a number of related break and enter offences which have recently occurred in the Inner West Police Districts.
These offences have occurred in newly constructed homes, and thieves are targeting white-goods, air conditioning units, hot water systems, timber, tiles, electrical and plumbing supplied, landscaping and trade tools.
Police are urging tradies to make sure their construction sites, vehicles and tools are secure by following some of these simple steps:
§  Identify your site – this promotes your business and displays a contact number for afterhours enquiries.
§  Coordinate deliveries – have goods delivered in the morning and installed on the same day to make them secure and difficult to remove.
§  Keep your site tidy – remove any packaging for high risk items such as white goods.
§  Secure and mark all property – have a secure fenced-area or lockable container to store items, mark tools and high risk items, and leave machinery

Queensland Racing Crime Squad arrest

Detectives attached to the Queensland Racing Crime Squad working in conjunction with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, Integrity Regulation Unit Stewards have today concluded a protracted investigation relating to a former harness racing participant.
A 69-year-old man from Redcliffe has been charged and released on bail to appear in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on January 8 in relation to charges of Match-Fixing, Fraud and Receiving Tainted Property.
Police will allege the man affected the outcome of a harness races at Albion Park in Queensland and Globe Derby Park in South Australia. It is further alleged that he facilitated the fraudulent purchase of harness racing horses whilst disqualified from all involvement in racing.
He is the fourth person to be charged with match-fixing offences.
Detective Inspector Mick Dowie of the Drug and Serious Crime Group said the QPS will continue to target anyone involved in illegal activity in the racing industry.

Skateboard incident, Corinda

Forensic Crash Unit officers are seeking witnesses or anyone who has further information in relation to skate boarder incident at Corinda this afternoon.
Around 4.15pm the man was headed south, downhill, on Clara Street when he has fallen off his skate board. The exact details of how he came off are unknown however it is not considered he was struck by a car.
He was located by other motorist’s unconscious on the roadway.
A 19-year-old man remains at the Princess Alexandria Hospital in a serious condition.
Anyone who saw the incident or has dash cam vision is urged to contact police.

Join police at a Safe Street Visit, Keperra

Inner West Brisbane police will hold a Safe Street Visit in Keperra this Wednesday, December 6, and Thursday, December 7.

Time:
Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm and Thursday 3pm to 4pm.

Where:
Jurayelba Place, at the corner of Kane Street, Callan Street and Tozer Street, Keperra.

Police will be discussing recent local crime trends and will provide tips on how to best secure homes and motor vehicles.
The Safe Street Visits are part of the ‘Watch out for your street’ safety initiative, which is a combined Neighbourhood Watch and Queensland Police Service project providing encouragement and education on how to enhance community safety and security.
