Don’t drop the ball, secure your vehicle

A three-part crime prevention video series featuring ‘The King’ Wally Lewis has been launched to help reduce motor vehicle offences in Queensland.
The first instalment focuses on vehicle security; an effective measure that only takes a few seconds and helps prevent thefts from and theft of vehicles.

Brisbane Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Brian Wilkins urged members of the community to secure their vehicles when leaving them unattended, even when parked at home.
“A reduction in crime can be achieved by preventative methods being adopted by the community that help stop offences from happening in the first place,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Wilkins said.
“Locking your vehicle doors and ensuring all windows are closed are basic, yet effective security measures to reduce the chance of having your vehicle broken into.”

Brooky Bite Nite – 20th April

School speed enforcement zones back in force as of April 17

Police from the Inner West Patrol Group wish to remind all motorists that school speed enforcement zones will be back in operation with effect the morning of Tuesday, April 17 with the resumption of the school term.
Motorists are further reminded that the gazetted speed limits in all school zones is 40km/h from 7am to 9am in the morning, and from 2pm to 4pm in the afternoon on school days.

Police will be actively policing and enforcing speed limits and traffic offences in school zones and ask motorists to be vigilant whilst approaching, travelling through and exiting school zones.
Please keep our school zones safe and travel safely at all times, no matter when or where you are.

Inner West suburb vehicles continue to be targeted by thieves

Police from the Inner West Patrol Group are advising residents that thieves have targeted vehicles in the following Inner West suburb locations within the recent week:
Theft of motor vehicles:

Warringah Street, Everton Park, and
Silverwood Court, Ferny Hills

Steal from motor vehicles:

Carrington Street, Paddington,
Boundary Road, Indooroopilly,
Exmouth Street, Toowong,
Waterworks Road, Ashgrove,
Linkwood Drive, Ferny Hills,
Dunkirk Street, Gaythorne,
Bunya Road, Everton Hills,
Tipuana Place, Bardon, and
Barrymore Street, Everton Park

The targeted vehicles had either been stolen or physically broken into, both during the day and night.
Targeted locations included, residential garages, driveways, carports and vehicles parked on the street or within construction sites.
A number of the vehicles broken into had valuable and attractive items in full view or were simplify left insecure at the time of the offence. These factors have seen thieves help themselves to a five-finger discount at the expense and loss of the vehicle’s owner.
Additionally, a number of these thefts included the theft of the vehicle’s registration

Inner West Police support Camp Crystal for childhood cancer

On the afternoon of April 7, Police from the Inner West Patrol Group and their Volunteers in Policing had the privilege of being able to participate in Camp Crystal 2018. Camp Crystal supports the families of children aged between 1 to 16-years-old, suffering from childhood cancer.
Each year, Childhood Cancer Support holds a free camping getaway for families of children who are presently facing or have faced childhood cancer, regardless of what stage they are currently at. Some of the families may have children who are newly diagnosed, some children maybe in remission, long-term survivors and others maybe parents or siblings of those who have passed away as a result of cancer.
The camp is run over a three day long weekend, filled with fun activities suitable for the whole family. Camp Crystal is a week-end escape for families to recharge and remind themselves that there is a life to be lived outside

Inner West police do the Highland fling

On the morning of April 7, Police from the Inner West Patrol Group and their Volunteers in Policing attended and conducted Police community engagement activities at the 2018 Australian Pipe Band Championships, being held at the Brisbane Boy’s College, Toowong.
Held every two years the Australian Pipe Band Championships is the premier Australian competition for bagpipe and drum bands. The event is generally attended by more than 30 bands made up of over 1,200 drummers and pipers from around Australia. This year’s event included international competitors such as students from the St George’s Girls School in Penang, Malaysia. The event also incorporated Highland dancing competitions, Highland medieval games and numerous Scottish related stalls.
During their community engagement activities Inner West Police took the opportunity to promote home, personal and vehicle security initiatives. Police also actively interacted with younger members of the community to proactively encouraged mutual respectful and harmonious relationships between the youth and Police.

Appeal for witnesses to bike accident, Toowong

Police are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into a traffic incident on Mount Coot-tha Road and Ada Street, Toowong.
At about 6.30am today, a female cyclist has come off her bike and sustained head injuries, upper torso injuries and minor cuts and scrapes.
At this stage the exact cause of the crash is unclear.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this accident or have dash cam vision to contact police.
