Inner West Police support the 2018 Brookfield Show
Between Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 20, police from the Inner West Patrol Group provided police coverage and support to the 2018 Brookfield Show.
The police support included general duties and plain clothes officers patrolling the show grounds ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being. Officers from Road Policing made sure the surrounding roads were safe and traffic flowed smoothly in and out of the showgrounds.
Officers from the Inner West Crime Prevention Unit, along with civilian volunteers from Crime Stoppers, provided a static police display for patrons of the show.
The display enabled show goers to speak to police officers first hand and obtain valuable information such as; personal and property security, road rules, vehicle licensing and registration advice and documentation.
The display also provided the opportunity for younger show patrons to personally interact with police officers, try on various police uniforms and experience a marked police patrol car up close and personal. This interaction was invaluable in fostering a

Crime alert: Thieves pick the easy option of unlocked door/windows
Police from the Inner West Patrol Group are advising residents that thieves have within the recent week, targeted homes and vehicles in Inner West areas.
Suburbs targeted include: Arana Hills, Ashgrove, Cedar Creek, Everton Hills, Evorton Park, Ferny Hills, Gaythorne, Highvale, Keperra, Mitchelton, The Gap and Upper Kedron.
Thieves are mainly stealing car keys and then vehicles, laptops, wallets, handbags and jewellery.
The main method that thieves are using to gain entry is by climbing through windows or walking through unlocked doors (including garage doors). These methods at times are occurring while the residents are home, which are called “sneak breaks”.
Police have increased patrols in your area and residents are encouraged to be vigilant, secure their homes and vehicles, record details of electronic equipment and photograph valuable items such as jewellery.
Below are some basic measures that can often be the most effective, such as securing doors and windows, even when at home:

As part of the Queensland Police Service’s continuing commitment to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community it has rolled out an Online Learning Product (OLP) to all officers in time for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
The learning tool helps officers by enhancing their understanding of:
Significant historical events that have impacted on the LGBTI community
Issues confronting the LGBTI community including discrimination, vilification, mental health and domestic and family violence
Legislation and QPS policy and guidelines specific to the LGBTI community
Effective communication and practical policing strategies to improve the delivery of a professional, non-discriminatory and accessible policing response
Internal and external support and referral service options for LGBTI clients.
While the training benefits all QPS members it has a particular focus for general duties officers, station client service officers and watch house staff who often engage with LGBTI persons during sensitive and vulnerable situations.
The QPS is committed to ensuring that, as
Thieves targeting Inner West residential underground garages
Police are advising residents of Inner West residential units and apartment blocks, (particularly in the suburbs of Indooroopilly and Taringa), that thieves are currently targeting vehicles and property located in residential underground and communal residential garages.
The offenders are gaining access either through unsecured garage doors or by following a vehicle into the garage, once the door had been remotely opened.
Once inside the offenders target both unlocked and locked vehicles by simply opening an unlocked door or forcing entry to locked vehicle, to steal visible valuable and attractive items such as wallets, handbags, mobile phones, laptops, cash, garage remotes etc.
The offenders are also stealing bicycles and other attractive items located within garage storage areas.
Police are urging residents to reassess their garage security, by utilising the following tips:
Close any communal doors that are open or unattended.
Don’t prop doors open, including internal and external garage doors.
Don’t lend garage keys or remotes to anyone.
