Bark-B-Q Breakfast at The Gap

Police attended the dog brekkie at Yoorala Street Parklands, The Gap on Sunday September 9 to meet the furry friends and their companions.

We were able to offer security information and advice to the visitors that attended the event to learn more about Dogs on Patrol.
Visitors learned how to continue keeping their own neighbourhoods staying safe all whilst walking their dog in their own neighbourhood.
Dogs on Patrol encourages members of the community to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, as well as how to report it.
It was also a great opportunity for residents to meet their fellow dog-owners and get to know their neighbours!

On the frontline of child protection, Child Protection Week

https://d2haxmvzil2swt.cloudfront.net/uploads/2018/09/03/121955_Final_Edited_Version.mp4 Download Video
This week is Child Protection Week.
Protecting children means a lot of different things to a great many people, but to the police officers who work at the frontline of child victim-based crimes, protecting children is the reason they get up every morning.
These officers see the worst of the worst, become intertwined in the terribly sad stories and witness first-hand the trauma that extends far beyond the day of the crime.
They are investigators, they are listeners and they are often the foundation of support for the victim who takes the bravest step to stand up and speak out.
We are using this week as a way to thank these men and women, to shine a light on the officers across the state working in the Child Protection Investigation Units for their commitment, their drive and the countless hours they spend working to keep the most vulnerable members of our community

Family day at Grovely spreading the Road Safety message

On the weekend we took the opportunity to have a day for the kids at Zarraffa’s, Grovely.
As I’m sure all parents know, little eyes and ears don’t miss a thing we do when we are driving, and we all need to set a good example to ensure kids grow up being safe around the road.
Family friendly days also help us to break down the barriers with little ones, build trust and let them know we are there to help.
Grovely staff, awesome as always
We had a marked motorcycle and car for the kids to play on and they had a great time, getting some free giveaways from us and also some yummy treats courtesy of Zarraffa’s.
Don’t worry, you’ll grow into it!
Some of the big kids had a play on the motorcycle as well.

After we had finished with all the fun with the kids we did some Random Breath Testing in the

Coffee with a Cop for Road Safety Week, Boondall

As a component of Road Safety Week, today we gave some road safety education at Zarraffas at Boondall, along with my colleagues from Boondall Road Policing Unit and Boondall Police Station.
Today’s Road Safety Week focus is Motorcyclists.
We had two brochures highlighting not only road rules but also how drivers can improve motorcyclist safety and how motorcyclists can improve their own safety.
These brochures were very well received, as not all motorists are aware that motorcyclists can lane filter between traffic in certain situations.
Senior Constable Wanda Beckett conducting RBT
In support of Road Safety Week, Zarraffa’s had printed a number of ‘free coffee’ cards reminding people of the Fatal Five, and we were able to hand these out to motorists who had a zero BAC on their breath test.

We’ll be having Coffee with a Cop at Zarraffa’s in Grovely again on Saturday September

Road Safety Week: Remembering Ride Safely 4 me

Senior Sergeant Ian Park – Ride Safely 4 Me
Almost three years ago Senior Sergeant Ian Park shared his story of losing a friend on our roads as a result of a motorcycle accident.
For those of you who don’t remember on Boxing Day 2015, Senior Sergeant Park, or Parkie, as he’s known at work, went to the scene of a motorcycle accident in which he later discover the person killed was the husband of a close friend.
You can find the original story here.
Since then, Senior Sergeant Park has shared this experience to educate and urge all road users to drive safely on the road.
Today is the last day of Queensland Road Safety Week and the focus is on motorcycle safety. In 2017, 50 motorcyclists died and 953 were hurt or seriously injured in crashes on Queensland roads.
Today and on all days we emphasise the importance of the #ridesafely4me message:

Respect the roads. Respect

Motorcycle safety for Queensland Road Safety Week

A motorcycle accident happens in a flash, but the aftermath is traumatic.
The faster you go, the harder you hit – and on a bike, you’ll always come off second‐best.
The only thing speeding gets you closer to is a crash.
In 2017, 50 motorcyclists died and 953 were hurt or seriously injured in crashes on Queensland roads.
Injuries can be serious and life-changing, with long and difficult recoveries.
This Queensland Road Safety Week, we are urging all motorcyclists to remember the motorcycle Fatal Five: speed, fatigue, drugs and alcohol, distractions and gear and maintenance.
At 80km/h you travel 44m in just 2 seconds, so always stay focused and leave time and space to react.
Riding tired affects reaction times and impairs judgement. Take a break or don’t get on the bike if you’re tired.
Look after yourself and look after your bike. The right gear and regular maintenance can save your life.
Ride to be seen and don’t
