Make sure Santa is the only one sneaking into your home at this time of year

Police would like to remind their Inner West residents to keep their homes well secured during the warmer months of the year.
Warmer months often lead to an increase in break and enter offences to residential properties as residents become complacent about securing doors and windows in an effort to cool down.
Most house-breaks appear to be crimes of opportunity, with entry often gained through an open or unlocked door or window. In many other circumstances, minimal effort is used to gain entry, for example via poor quality door locks.
It is important to remember that our aim is not to turn the home into a fortress or a prison. We are, however, attempting to make the home resistant to entry by opportunistic offenders.
Units and apartments are not immune to these offences despite their height from the ground. Many offenders will climb balconies to gain entry through balcony doors or windows.
The most basic measures

School Watch North Brisbane – Look, Listen and Report

Now school holidays are being enjoyed across Queensland, we are seeking the assistance of the wider community to keep an eye on our schools.
While the students and teachers enjoy a break away, unfortunately schools can become a target for offences such as graffiti, arson, trespass and break and enters.
Unfortunately we have already experienced a couple of these at our local schools.
While police and security guards will be patrolling, we require the help from everyone by taking part in School Watch.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service.
School Watch aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools.
If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Instead – Look, Listen and Report and call the School Watch number 13 17 88. –
By working together we can

Is your business security adequate?

Police are encouraging Inner West businesses to assesses and review their physical security and business security practises.
Several businesses in the Inner West District have recently been targeted by thieves conducting break, enter and steal offences, during out of business hour periods.
The offenders have used forced entry techniques to enter business premises (both large and small) with the intention of targeting both safes and money draws.
There are many forms of crime that can effect businesses, including break and enter offences.
By taking some simple step’s, businesses can greatly minimise the risk of becoming a target.
Listed below are some tips to reduce this risk:

Display your business name and address at the front of your premises to help emergency services locate your property quickly;
Place warning signs/stickers around your business to detour intruders (eg. ‘No Cash Kept on Premises’);
Ensure clear visibility inside and outside your business by using good lighting and keeping it clutter free;
Keep trees and shrubs trimmed to help reduce concealment

Heavy rainfall continues in parts of Queensland – limit non-essential travel

With severe weather systems dumping heavy rainfalls across much of Queensland police would like to remind members of the community, the motoring public and the boating fraternity to exercise extreme care when traversing waterways, watercourses and roadways.
Heavy rains and flooded waterways are unpredictable with large volumes of surface water making conditions dangerous due to hazards such as storm debris, road washouts and wildlife. Police are urging everyone to obey road closure signs and to travel with extreme caution, limiting non-essential travel in any area affected by the current severe weather systems.
With North Queensland well know ‘croc country’ police near Tully came across a crocodile sitting near the middle of the road last night. Officer’s fortunately were able to avoid the animal however with heavy rains still falling from ex-tropical cyclone Owen wildlife can be expected to be displaced and may wander onto roadways.
The on-going and significant rainfall has resulted in an

Christmas road safety campaign launched

Today, the Minister for Police, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, and Assistant Commissioner of Road Policing Command, Mike Keating launched the 2018 QPS Christmas road safety campaign on the Gold Coast.
This year’s launch saw police joined by emergency services including Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Queensland Ambulance Service and RACQ LifeFlight.

Assistant Commissioner Keating said the bringing together of emergency services for today’s launch was symbolic of a response to some of the most traumatic scenes emergency services workers see on our roads.
“In 2018, we have lost 229 lives on Queensland roads and as far as we’re concerned, that is 229 lives too many,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“Alongside this, we have seen far too many traffic crashes requiring hospitalisation on our roads, all of which impact our Queensland communities and our emergency services workers.
“This Christmas, we just want to see everyone make it home safely and

Santa sighted in Brookfield

Teaching Santa to selfie – he’s a natural!
On Friday afternoon I had the honour of assisting Santa Claus with some early Christmas celebrations at Brookfield.
Although he usually just manages the one vehicle in his line of work, Santa showed me that he can handle a motorcycle as well as he can handle his reindeer and sleigh.
Santa had an extensive Naughty and Nice list that the elves have been reporting on daily to update.
He double-checked a name or two with the QPS while we were there, but Santa has also assured me there is still time for a few good deeds before Christmas to move a few stragglers from the Naughty list to the Nice list.
There’s a lot of work to do before the big day, so we let him continue on his way spreading Christmas cheer!
