Easter road safety stories – “ride safely for me”

The Queensland Police Service’s Easter road safety campaign began on April 5 and will run until April 26.
Commissioner Stewart said that anyone travelling on the state’s highways can expect to encounter police.
This campaign coincides with the Easter school holidays, a period in which there is a large increase of vehicles on the roads.
Inspector Ian Park, now of Brisbane Police Prosecutions Corps wrote a story about when his personal and professional life collided.
“Personally, I don’t think we’ll have success on the roads until our road toll is zero. And that’s based on my own experience,” Inspector Park said.
“I’ve seen people with iPads set up on their dashboard watching a movie while they’re driving. Especially if they know they’re going to hit peak hour traffic or slow traffic. I mean, you can still kill someone regardless of the fact that your average speed might only be 10 to 20 kilometres an hour.

Appeal for assistance, Warner

Detectives have released footage and are appealing to the public to help locate a man who can assist with investigations into a number of linked property offences across Warner.
Investigations indicate the man may have information in relation to the theft of a grey Mazda 2 sedan from an Ontario Drive address on Wednesday, March 7 after he was seen getting into the passenger seat outside a Petrie bottle shop the following day.
The man can been seen in CCTV footage walking into the Beeville Road business just after 3pm and stealing alcohol before getting into the passenger seat of the stolen sedan.

Police observed the stolen vehicle on Beerburrum Road at Caboolture shortly before midnight when the driver accelerated away at speed.
The man and same stolen vehicle were then involved in a petrol drive-off offence at a Mackie Road service station in Narangba on Friday, March 9.

A short time later the same

Emergency services unite for Easter road safety campaign

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP and Aspley MP Bart Mellish joined Commissioner Ian Stewart and other emergency services today to mark the start of the Queensland Police Service’s Easter Road Safety campaign.
From today until April 26, the QPS will coordinate a state-wide traffic policing operation designed to reduce the number of serious injuries, fatal traffic crashes and road related crime.
This operation coincides with the Easter school holidays and a period in which there is an increase in vehicles using Queensland roads.
The Easter Road Safety Campaign will include strategies such as a highly visible police presence on highways and roads, targeted operations at locations where an increase in road users is likely and static and mobile roadside driver testing regarding alcohol and/or drugs with a focus on locations more likely to be carrying high volumes of road users.

HE Program celebrated in North Brisbane

On Saturday March 30, police and Sudanese men from across North Brisbane Police District took part in the ‘HE’ part of the latest She.He.We. program.
‘HE’ program stands for ‘Hear Me, Empower Me’ and the program aims to bridge the gap and build positive relationships between the Queensland Police Service and the local Sudanese community.
This particular ‘HE’ workshop was celebrated with elders and emerging young men from local Sudanese and South Sudanese communities.
Throughout the workshop, we were able to speak openly in a safe place, share experiences and officers were genuinely interested in learning Sudanese customs and culture.
By sharing our experiences and raising awareness we identified that the Sudanese community experiences were not so different for all of us as community members.
The workshop also had the pleasure of The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Local Government, Minister for Racing and Minister for Multicultural Affairs attend.
Minster Hinchliffe spoke to participants sharing
