Police visit local child care centre, Albany Creek

On the morning July 2, at Little Gem Child Care and Early Learning Centre, Albany Creek was fortunate enough to have a visit from the police.
All the boys and girls learnt all about the role of a police officer in the community and were able to dress up as officers.
Ferny Grove Police officers spoke about how to recognise a police officer, looking for things such as their uniform but most importantly, their badge.
The police brought with them the police cars and motorbike which the kids loved taking turns sitting in the driver’s seat and riding the police bike.
Some of the drivers appeared to be ready to join the Service and to be potential future recruits!
The highlight for the kids was of course finding the buttons to turn on the lights and sirens of the police car. Centre Staff also had the opportunity to try the uniforms

Thieves targeting garages in multi-residential living areas

Inner West Police wish to advise residents that there has been an increase in the number of incidents where thieves have gained unlawful access to secure car parks of unit complexes and apartment blocks in Inner West suburbs.
Between the period of July 1 and July 9, thieves have targeted a number of garages and car parks in the following multi-residential living areas:

Toowong

Benson Street
Brisbane Street
Sylvan Street
Maryvale Street
Elizabeth Street

Auchenflower

Dunmore Terrace

Some of the targeted vehicles were damaged (windows smashed) to enable the thieves to remove valuables.
A number of these thefts have been the direct result of vehicles being left unlocked.
Items commonly stolen include:

Coins/cash
Mobile phones
GPS
iPods
Laptops
Wallets
Sunglasses
Bags
Stereos and
CD’s

In most cases, these items were left in plain view within the vehicle.
Police recommend the following garage and vehicle security tips:

Avoid storing excess belongings piled up in garage areas and lock-up garages. It is recommended that they be hidden from view in small sheds or cages. See your body
