Update: Death investigation, Holland Park West

Detectives are appealing for public assistance as they continue to investigate the death of a 30-year-old man at Holland Park West last night.
Police were called to the location outside C.B. Mott Park on Logan Road around 11.00pm after a member of the public located the vehicle.
Joshua Thorne (pictured) was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Mr Thorne was believed to be living in the South Brisbane area and police are seeking public assistance to identify his recent movements and where he was staying.
Investigators are also appealing for anyone who may have seen a white 2008 Holden Commodore sedan with Queensland registration 642-KWR (pictured) in the Holland Park West area last night, or who may have dash cam vision from Logan Road to contact police.

Police on hand to keep kids safe at the Ekka

Free identification wristbands that help reunite lost children with their parents are once again available at the Ekka, Police Minister Mark Ryan announced yesterday.
The wristbands which help to reunite lost children with their parents contributed to returning almost 100 children at the 2018 event.

Officers are expecting many visitors to the Ekka Police Station this year after distributing approximately 15,000 wristbands throughout last year’s Ekka.
The wristbands have a space for parents and carers to write their contact details on them prior to securing the band to the wearer’s wrist.
Officers will be handing out the wristbands everyday of the show
In addition to obtaining a wristband on the day, police encourage parents to seriously discuss being safe at the show with their children.
Inspector Garry Watts of the Fortitude Valley Patrol Group suggested keeping records of what your child is wearing amongst his safety tips.

Have you lost your Grate?

On Friday August 2, officers from the Centenary Property Team executed a search warrant at an address in  Darra in relation to alleged stolen property, namely drainage grates, which had been stolen from businesses across Brisbane.
During the search warrant, a total of 134 metal drainage grates and 14 square storm water grates were located.
Investigations are ongoing and police are encouraging anyone with information in relation to the owners of the alleged stolen property to make contact.

Armed robbery, Nundah

Investigations are underway after a man used a firearm to rob a service station at Nundah last night with the community being asked to assist with inquiries.
Around 9.45pm the man entered a Sandgate Road business wearing a balaclava before making demands for money and cigarettes while armed with a handgun.
The 26-year-old male store employee handed over an amount of cash from the till and cigarettes.
The armed man then fled the premises.
He was last seen running towards Hamilton Road.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, 170 cm tall with a slim build.
He was wearing a navy-blue jacket, black balaclava, black shorts and white shoes.

Armed robbery charges, North Brisbane

A man has been charged with the alleged armed robberies of three bottle shops across Brisbane’s north over the weekend.
Around 9.20pm on Friday, the man walked into a liquor store on Everest Street at Warner where it will be alleged he used a broken bottle to threaten the employee before fleeing with a sum of money and alcohol.
Then it will be alleged the man used a syringe to threaten a staff member at a Burpengary bottle shop around 6pm last night. Money was also stolen during the incident.
Less than an hour later the man entered a licensed premises on River Street at Petrie where it will be alleged he threatened an employee with a syringe and fled with a sum of cash.
No one was hurt during the incidents.
Officers attended a Petrie residence today where a 20-year-old man was arrested in relation to the three alleged armed robberies.

Torture charges, Keperra

Police have charged a man after he allegedly held another man captive and assaulted him in Keperra overnight.
It will be alleged an 18-year-old The Gap man and a 22-year-old underwood man, who are known to each other, were at a residence in Keperra. Between 1am and 6am the older man refused to let the other man leave the residence and assaulted him by punching him in the head and hitting him with a wrench a number of times.
Around 6am the victim was able to get away and contacted police.
A 22-year-old Underwood man has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty and wilful damage. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, August 3.
The 18-year-old victim was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with facial lacerations and bruising.

Working together to make a safer community

On Thursday, July 25 officers from Ferny Grove Police Station, North Brisbane District Police Liaison Officers (PLO) and Department of Housing and Public Works came together with community members to share information and strategies to maximise safety and enhance well-being.
The services aim to build on positive relationships between government departments and our local community by working together to make our community safer.
 

Officer in Charge Acting Senior Sergeant Garry Stephen said together with consultation and productive partnerships between the Queensland Government and external supporting agencies, the QPS will continue to utilise events like this to bring community members together.
“We are all working towards a community safety plan in this area and with the ongoing support of the community, we are taking big steps forward,” Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen said.

Scam targeting students

Indooroopilly Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are seeking assistance in identifying further victims of a scam which seems to be targeting overseas students through social media sites.
In a recently reported scam, the victim was contacted through a Facebook site and offered a job.
The victim was asked to place an amount of money in a bank account to cover the purchase of a uniform for the job.
After depositing the cash, the victim was then asked to provide their personal details to the scammer.
After this was complete the scammer failed to provide the promised job and is un-contactable.
The scammer has been known to use multiple social media sites including Facebook and WhatsApp to contact potential victims.

Assault, New Farm

At around 11pm on July 13, a 38-year-old Morningside man and a woman were waiting along Bowen Terrace in New Farm when they were approached by another man.
The man has allegedly punched the Morningside man, knocking him unconscious before leaving the scene in a unknown direction.
The man received injuries to his mouth and was transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment.
Police are seeking to identify the man in the below CCTV footage and believe he can assist with enquires.
