Today, January 24 marks the Nation’s second National Day of Action, representing a day of unity from police across the country, all working together towards one common purpose; road safety.
Deaths on our roads affect everyone. From loved ones to emergency service workers to colleagues and even to those who hear about it on the news, thousands of kilometres away.
Driving on our roads and using our roads should never come at such an irreversible cost.
One death on Australian roads is too many.
Queensland Police know this all too well and so will be joining the Australia-wide day of action and implementing multi-faceted and highly visible enforcement actions.
Acting Inspector Ian Crang said that whilst road safety is a priority for Queensland Police each and every day, this operation will add to the on-going Christmas and back to school campaign, already in place.

ATMs targeted by skimming devices
Police are warning members of the public to be on alert for Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card skimming devices fitted to ATMs.
A number of ATMs across Metropolitan Brisbane have been targeted by skimming devices over the past week.
The skimming devices are being utilised to steal and obtain unlawful identification data from financial institution bank/ debit cards.
Once this information has been obtained, it is used in various ways to unlawfully take money from the respective customer’s account.
Generally, a skimming device is a cover plate placed over the original card insert point on the ATM (similar to the one pictured above) with a small camera attached to the ATM to record the card’s personal identification number (PIN).
Police are reminding members of the public to be vigilant when using ATMs and use simple security actions such as; inspecting the card insert point for any suspicious attachments and using your hand to cover as

Recent property offences in multi-residential buildings
When it comes to security, high-rise buildings and apartments are just as vulnerable as other residential homes.
Poor security habits can put a whole building at risk.
Most offenders are opportunists; searching for quick, easy entry points.
Police have observed that offenders have recently committed offences in the Taringa area by gaining entry to secured car parks and common areas.
These offenders are then entering vehicles and storage cages to steal property.
Police are reminding residents to remove all valuable items, including unit keys and building access cards, from their vehicles, even in secured car parks.
We are encouraging residents to be alert and to secure their units, vehicles and storage areas.
Some tips:
Keep your balcony screens locked at all times, including night-time
Don’t allow unauthorised visitors access to the building
Don’t prop open communal doors
Check garage doors close completely so potential offenders can’t sneak in

Robbery arrests, Wacol and Heathwood
Two men and a woman have been arrested following the alleged robbery of a Wacol service station this morning.
Shortly before 2.30am, a male employee was in the rear of the Boundary Road business when they heard glass smashing and observed two men force entry.
Once inside they jumped the counter and stole a number of cigarette packets and ice creams from a freezer nearby before fleeing in a black coloured Mercedes sedan.
The attendant was able to lock themselves in a room at the rear of the premises.
A short time later officers were patrolling the Ipswich Motorway and observed the vehicle travelling west.
The sedan was later found abandoned in Leslie Street, East Ipswich.
Dog Squad officers tracked the occupants to an address at Farr Street where two men and a woman were arrested.
Investigations indicate the same vehicle was used during the alleged robbery of a bakery on Staplyton Road at Heathwood yesterday morning.
