Police are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into a serious traffic crash at Arana Hills yesterday.
Initial inquiries indicate around 5pm a black Mazda 6 was headed east on Patricks Road when it collided with a white Mitsubishi Pajero which was turning from Grove East into Patricks Road.
The Mazda 6 has left the road and hit a shop at the intersection.
The driver of the Mazda was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious injuries.
Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dash cam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Statement from Commissioner Stewart regarding terrorism
Following the charging of two men in Sydney for terrorism-related offences, Police Commissioner Ian Stewart has today moved to reassure the community that there remains no specific threat to Queensland.
Commissioner Stewart said partner agencies had kept the Queensland Police Service (QPS) regularly updated throughout the ongoing counter-terrorism operation.
“We have all been concerned and disturbed at what our interstate and federal colleagues have uncovered in Sydney, but I want to stress that this thorough investigation has been confined to NSW and there is no connection to Queensland,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“At no time has this investigation identified any threat to Queensland, nor have there been any links established between the New South Wales persons of interest and anyone in Queensland.
“Despite this, the safety of all Queenslanders is my top priority and today is a timely reminder that while there is no need to be alarmed, it is important to be vigilant.

A message to Inner West motorcycle owners
Queensland is one of the top selling states for motorcycle sales. Unfortunately, with the increase of motorcycles on our roads comes an increase in motorcycle theft. Their smaller size and weight easily facilitates them being physically picked up and loaded onto another vehicle and stolen.
Recently a number of motorcycles have been the target of thieves within the Inner West District and local police would like to remind owners and riders to be vigilant with their motorcycle security and recommended the following tips to protect their pride and joy:
Record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine number, particularly if the motorcycle is unregistered or for off road/road racing;
Keep your keys on you or safely secured away at all times;
Use an ignition or steering lock;
Use a strong thick chain and quality padlock. Keep the chain off the ground, to make it harder to cut;
Secure your motorcycle to something solid that can’t be moved;

Showing the Sea Scouts the ropes
Fourteen scouts and their leaders from the Pamphlett-Tennyson Sea Scouts attended the Indooroopilly Police Station on Saturday, where they were shown the ‘ropes’ by police and became honourary members of the QPS for the afternoon.
Scouts Citizenship Badge
The tour was in support of the scouts achieving their Citizenship Badge. To achieve this badge the scouts must complete a number components, which includes the ‘Community’ component. This component requires a scout to organise a visit to an organisation that serves the local community. Indooroopilly Police Station was selected as the scout’s chosen community organisation.
During their tour, the scouts had the opportunity to experience an operational police station first hand. Their experience included learning about the functions of police in the community, speaking with general duties officers and detectives, learning about police equipment, experiencing police facilities such as; interview rooms, holding cells and fingerprinting rooms and checking out a number of police vehicles (which
‘Lock it or Lose it’ checks Indooroopilly
On Friday July, 28 police from the Inner West Patrol Group conducted a Rail Operation at Indooroopilly Railway Station. As part of the Operation Police Officers from the Inner West Crime Prevention Unit conducted a ‘Lock it or Lose it’ check of vehicles parked within the vicinity of the railway station and surrounding back streets.
Of the vehicles checked, the majority were found to be secure, however, a number of vehicles were found to be unlocked, allowing unimpeded and unauthorised access into these vehicles.
In addition to this, a number of secured vehicles were observed to have in open view, valuable and attractive items. These items included laptops, GPS, mobile phones, handbags, household keys, coins, personal documents and insecure tools in the rear trays of utilities.
The vehicles identified to be insecure were left with a friendly note from police in relation to the insecurity.

Ferny Grove officers receive bronze bravery award
A number of police officers from the Queensland Police Service recently attended an award ceremony to receive bravery awards from the Royal Humane Society of Australasia.

The following four officers are from the Ferny Grove Police Station; Sergeant Robert Colthorpe, Detective Senior Constable Martin Payne, Plain Clothes Senior Constable Stephen Pelzer and Constable Connor Cunneen were the recipients of the Bronze Bravery Medal.
These four officers, along with two members from the Australian Defence Force, Major Scott Hill and Sergeant Alain Fricotte, received the Bronze Bravery Medal for their acts of bravery during the rescue of an elderly gentleman from a residential house fire in Mitchelton in April, 2015.
The actual wording of their bravery award read:

A 25-year-old male Constable from the Brisbane Region has been stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service and will be tasked to perform non-operational duties.
The officer is the subject of an investigation regarding allegations of domestic violence.

Ferny Grove honour fallen comrade on 10 year anniversary

On Tuesday, July 18, a memorial service was held at the Ferny Grove Police Station to commemorated the 10th anniversary of the tragic loss in the line of duty of Constable Brett Andrew Irwin registered number 4020316 of the Ferny Grove Police Station.
At approximately at 10.50pm on July 18, 2007, Constable Brett Irwin and his shift partner attended a residential address in Keperra to execute an arrest warrant on an adult male who had failed to appear in court.
As Constable Irwin approached the rear door of the address, he was shot and fatally wounded by the man wanted on the warrant. Unknown to Constable Irwin or his partner, the wanted man and an acquaintance had robbed a motel in Kippa-Ring, at gunpoint about 7.20pm that same night in order to steal cash for drugs.
More than 3,000 people subsequently attended Constable Irwin’s funeral at
Mt Zero campaign takes on Mt Coot-tha
Police from the Inner West Patrol Group are conducted the Mt Zero campaign on the weekend. It all started up at Mt Coot-tha on Saturday morning with police spreading road safety messages to road users that visited.
The Mt Zero campaign was created to raise awareness of the dangers on roads in Mt Coot-tha, Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious Roads and the aim of the campaign is to reduce accidents and fatalities on these mountain roads.
Common factors contributing to accidents on these roads were speed, lack of rider experience, driver error, poor visibility and collision with other vehicles.
We appeal for all road users to slow down on mountain roads and drive to the ever changing conditions by taking extra care when driving and riding.
Winter can bring high winds and the road surface can become slippery due to morning and evening dew and sun light fades quicker.
Police would like to thank the public for their
